Trips

The school organises many highly rewarding and life-changing trips in this country and abroad.

Every two years, students from the Sixth Form can take part in a World Challenge Trip which they plan and organise themselves. Students travelled to Malawi in 2018 (read a student perspective of the trip here) and in 2016 they visited Myanmar.  Our students trekked along the Silk Route in 2014 taking in Uzbekistan and Kazakhstan and in 2012 they climbed volcanoes in Nicaragua.  Previous World Challenge teams from Derby High visited Mongolia, Argentina and Mexico.  In 2020 our World Challenge team were planning to travel to Bolivia, but unfortunately this trip had to be cancelled due to the pandemic.

A trip to India for sixth formers was led by our School Chaplain in October 2019.

Recent sports tours have visited Greece, Malta and Gibraltar and there was a netball tour to Dubai planned for 2020, which has had to be postponed

As well as the usual regular geography field trips in the UK, a further flung geography trip considers the geothermal wonders of Iceland.  Visits to CERN in Switzerland have taken place for our A Level Chemists and Physicists and 2019 also saw the biennial joint ski trip with Derby Grammar School take place - this time to Madesimo in Italy.

There is also a programme of visits to take advantage of learning in the wider context. There are regular trips to support learning in Science, Geography, Religious Studies and History and annual trips to France and Germany.
