Primary High Notes 26th June

Primary High Notes 26th June

The Independent Schools of the Year awards were launched in 2018 to highlight the excellence of the student experience in independent schools. It is with great pleasure that I am able to tell you that Derby High School has been shortlisted for an award in the Student Careers Programme category this year, with the final results being announced in October. This award is for the school which best helps the students with on-going advice and support on choosing a career and assists them with finding suitable work experience, including internships, and in preparing for future employment.

As we move into the final week of the most unusual summer term, we cannot wait to have all Primary pupils back in school. I look forward to seeing many of you next week.

Best Wishes

Meet Mr Harper – Head of Primary

In September Mr Jeremy Harper will be joining Derby High School as Head of Primary. Many pupils and staff will have already met Mr Harper. He has been busy preparing to join our school over the last two terms.

In spring term our pupils had the opportunity to meet Mr Harper and get to know him better. Click here to read what they asked him.

Year 5 Poetry

Year 5 have been working on an exciting combined English/Science and Topic project where they researched an animal. The children created some beautiful poetry and art on a chosen animal or plant, based on the book The Lost Words. Click here to view the full gallery of their poetry work.

Wrens Jumping Practice

Our Wrens (Pre-School) initiated jumping practice all on their own this week! They took it in turns, learned to jump, looked after each other and showed great persistence. Well done Wrens, we're very proud of you! To watch the time lapse video on Facebook, click here.

Back to School Preparation

If your child is returning to school next week you may wish to have a discussion with them about what will be different. To help you with this Twinkl.com have created some very useful discussion cards. Click here to download a copy of the cards.

How Are Your Sunflowers?

You may recall in March Mrs Chapman and Chaplain Jo sent you sunflower seeds. We’ve enjoyed receiving your photographs and watching them grow. It would be lovely to see how tall they are now. Please do keep sending in your photos to Mrs Cotton, rcotton@derbyhigh.derby.sch.uk.

PSHE and Wellbeing Task Week 9

This week’s PSHE and well being task is to create “mood diary”. Keep track of your feelings and emotions, using colours, emojis and words. Keep track of your feelings over the week and if you find it helpful, you could continue your mood diaries over the summer holidays. Click here to watch Dr. E-B explain more about the task.

End of Term arrangements

Please remember that term ends on Friday 3rd July at midday. In order to enable social distancing on the school site we will stagger pick up times, further details will be sent out early next week.

Reminder About Parking

Please can we kindly remind parents not to park in Pineview Gardens. This area is located across the road  from our school gates at the top of Pastures Hill. Thank you for your support.
