Primary High Notes 8th July 2022

Primary High Notes 8th July 2022

Whilst I do not want to dwell too much upon the unprecedented challenges of the past two years, I do want to share with you my admiration for the courage and resilience that all members of this community have demonstrated. As we now begin to emerge from the other side of this crisis, we do so in the knowledge that those bonds which have been forged in adversity, have only served to enrich and intensify our relationships with one another. We have inspired each other to live with hope and face the future in the sure knowledge that we are now in a stronger position than ever before.

I would like to take this opportunity to thank those staff who are leaving Derby High at the end of this term. Mrs Linda Seymour (French) retires and Miss Harriet Kent moves on to a new challenge in the Caymen Islands. We wish them a very happy future whether it be in a retirement well deserved or moving on to a new place of work. I would like to record my thanks to all Derby High staff for their hard work and dedication this year.

We have come to the end of a very successful year with outstanding achievements across many different areas of school life right up to the last day of term. I want to thank each and every one of you for your support throughout this year - firstly, for choosing Derby High School and secondly for trusting us with your child’s education.

Finally may I wish you all an enjoyable and safe summer holiday.

Best wishes,

Primary Showcase Evening

It was wonderful to have so many parents in school on Tuesday evening. The children thoroughly enjoyed showing their work to family, taking time to look at new books in the book fair, showcasing their beautiful art work and singing all their favorite songs from over this academic year.

Thank you to all the parents who have sent such positive feedback from the event and to all the staff and pupils who make the evening such a memorable occasion.

On Monday, students from both Primary and Senior, performed together in our Senior hall and presented a wonderful Disney themed showcase.

The children have all enjoyed dance club this year and this was a fantastic opportunity to show parents their amazing progress. Everyone danced beautifully, performing with confidence and enthusiasm.

All the students had a fantastic time and are all looking forward to another dance show next year.

Year 3 to 6 Rounders

For our final Games Afternoon of the year, our students took part in House Rounders, each house competed against the other houses, playing 2 innings each and using a timed innings format. We started the afternoon with Y3 and 4, who demonstrated lots of great fielding and batting skills. St Patrick finished in 4th place with 6 points, St George 3rd with 9 points, St David 2nd with 12 and well done to St Andrew who finished first with 15 points and all their games won! Year 5 and 6 also put on some fantastic performances and demonstrated some great teamwork when fielding and some strong hits when batting. In 4th place with 6 points was St David, in 3rd place with 9 points was St Andrew, with 12 points St Gorge finished in 2nd place and the winning House with 15 points and all their games won was St Patrick. Well done to all the children who took part!

Wrens’ Trip to Chatsworth Farmyard

Our Pre-School had a brilliant visit to Chatsworth House Farmyard last Thursday. The children had fun discovering the working farmyard and farmyard friends. We fed guinea pigs and chicks. We also had a chance to visit the bigger animals on the farm too. Everyone really enjoyed the tractor ride around the beautiful grounds of Chatsworth House. It was also very exciting to spot the deer!

Reception’s Trip to Chatsworth Farmyard

The children in Reception had a wonderful time on Monday, visiting Chatsworth Farm. We had lots of fun doing a range of activities; including taking a look at all the animals and going on a tractor and trailer ride; learning about the Chatsworth estate and the animals living there. We also took part in a workshop, where we had the opportunity to handle chicks and a kid goat called Tigger. The Robins and Sparrows amazed the staff with their wealth of knowledge on hatching ducks, remembering all of the facts learnt from when we hatched our own ducks.

It was a delight taking all of the children. They demonstrated polite and impeccable behaviour, with Chatsworth staff and members of the public commenting on how well behaved they were.

Wrens Beach Party

Our Pre-School had a splashtastic time on Wednesday with their very own beach party! The children had a great time playing in the water and singing summer songs together.

Silverstone Grand Prix

A big well done to Caden in L5 and Josh in Y1 for their amazing dance performance at Silverstone Grand Prix. 1720 children from dance schools across the UK came together to perform in front of a crowd of 141,00 people at the Silverstone Grand Prix last weekend. Well done to both our students!
