Primary High Notes 24th September

Primary High Notes 24th September

I have really enjoyed visiting Primary classrooms this week, seeing fabulous learning taking place. Dr Ngwerume took Year 5 outside for their science lesson, where they had created the planets and were mapping out the solar system in the playground. Year 1 were particularly active in their French lesson with Madame Seymour, with pupils being asked to Levez-vous! (stand up) and Levez votre main droite. I have also heard so much wonderful singing in music as Mrs Cooke and our pupils prepare for Harvest Festival.

My primary assembly this week focused on the message behind the lovely, quirky “The Pig of Happiness” by Edward Monkton. We shared our smiles with each other and thought about how that made us feel. By sharing our happiness and positivity, even with just the simple gesture of a smile, we can create a snowball effect, and just as in the story, leak happiness across our whole community. Without even knowing or thinking about it, how we are with others can have a great effect on those around us. We listened to the wonderful song “For Good” from the musical Wicked. I asked our pupils to think about the lyrics: “Because I knew you, I have been changed for good”. We can all have a powerful effect on those around us - it is for us to choose to make that positive, in both our words and our actions.

Best Wishes

Hardwick’s Assembly

All Hardwick parents should have received the link to their child’s class assembly.  We very much hope you enjoy watching it. This was the first class assembly of the year linked to our whole school start of term focus: 'Growing Together and Learning Together'. Hardwick Class under Mrs Coward's guidance and Mrs Cooke's musical direction, deliver a wonderfully moving presentation of which they should all be duly proud. Well done!

Year 2 Ladybirds

Today has marked the end of Year 2’s fantastic investigation on the life cycle of ladybirds. Over the last 3 weeks, the children have observed closely how ladybirds begin as eggs, turn into larvae, form a pupa and then go through metamorphism to emerge as ladybirds. The children were incredibly excited to release our ladybirds onto the school field that we have nurtured for the past 3 weeks. The children thoroughly enjoyed this investigation and can’t wait to see what we have in store for them next in science.

Sport Stories

PE Super Stars

Well done to Isabella and Hammad for being PE super stars this week. During their hockey afternoon at Moorways Stadium, Isabella put in 100% effort and had a great work rate during the hockey drills. Hammad was a super star for showing lots of enthusiasm both in drills and in a game, as well as being really polite to his teachers.

Good Luck to Sam!

Sam, Year 3, plays for Ashbourne Rugby Club on Sundays and we wish him all the best for his first match of the season next Sunday at Tupton. His team are in need of players, if your Year 3 child is interested, please see the flyer below.

A Special Visit for 3 Keen Swimmers

A week last Wednesday George, Alice and Amelia in Year 6 met Adam Peaty! They were selected by their coach at City of Derby Swimming Club to attend, what they thought, was a Speedo event. When they got there it was actually a promotional film for Cupra cars with Adam Peaty! Adam spent 90 minutes with them at Queens Street Leisure Centre, he even gave them some coaching tips. Football Fixture, DHS v Mugginton C of E Primary School

Thank you to Mugginton C of E Primary School for a fantastic football match on Monday evening. Both teams played with determination and showed brilliant teamwork. A tough match which went into extra time, concluding with a 3 - 1 win to Derby High.

It was wonderful to welcome parents and staff to support the teams in the sunshine! We look forward to playing our friends from Muggington C of E again soon.
