Senior High Notes 18th February 2022

We’ve made it to half term, with relatively few Covid related absences. Thank you to everyone for being so supportive of the necessary restrictions in place. It has been a packed six and a half weeks for every year group throughout the school. We have been able to enjoy a large number of sport fixtures, House Music heats, many rehearsals for the Senior Production of “The Importance of Being Ernest”, mock examinations and lots going on in the classroom.

We’ve made it to half term, with relatively few Covid related absences. Thank you to everyone for being so supportive of the necessary restrictions in place. It has been a packed 6 and a half weeks for every year group throughout the school. It was wonderful to welcome an audience for the two showings of “The Last Monster in Scotland”, performed by Years 3 and 4 this week. It was a very special occasion on Tuesday, welcoming parents back into school for our first in-school event in the Senior School in almost 2 years. It was wonderful to see so many parents and students at our Sixth Form Options when Year 11 students (both from Derby High and elsewhere) had the opportunity to talk to our dedicated subject staff to find out more about the A Level courses we offer. There was also much interest in the many enrichment and leadership opportunities available. We are very much looking forward to welcoming Year 9 parents and students after half term for our GCSE Options Evening.

This week I have really enjoyed visiting pupils in their classrooms, seeing the interesting things they are learning and, most importantly, their academic curiosity and desire to know more. It has been great to be able to come together for assemblies through the power of technology, but there is no substitute for being altogether in the hall. We feel now is the right time to bring everyone back together, with carefully considered Covid measures.
