Year 4 had a fantastic residential in Shrewsbury. All of the children showed fantastic communication skills and were brilliant at taking responsible risks.
On the first day, all of the children had to become animals, tunnelling in the pitch-black underground burrows to locate hidden objects. After that, the children had to show great strength as they winched one another up on a giant swing, showing great collaboration and bravery. In the evening, the children enjoyed a campfire, learning new songs, roasting marshmallows and drinking hot chocolate before bed.
Day two was full of lots of exciting activities. All of the groups participated in an orienteering challenge before moving onto Puzzle Park where they have to work in teams to solve puzzles and win their right to be able to leave the park. Quite a few of the puzzles even confused their teachers! The afternoon was spent flying through the air on the zip wires and showing great persistence on the low ropes courses.
On the final day, the children took some extremely responsible risks. Staff were so impressed with how many of them managed to get to the top of the tower and equally how many of them took on the challenge of abseiling back down. The children’s final activity was a challenge course where they had to use their metacognition skills to work out how they could all complete each challenge to be able to move onto the next.
Miss Bailey, Mr Horne, Mrs Hamilton and Mrs Liddle were very proud of Year 4 for using so many of their Thinking for Learning skills and for such an enjoyable few days.
