UK Space Design Finals!

A team of 8 students from Y11 to U6 spent an amazing weekend at Imperial College London competing in the National Finals of the UK Space Design Competition.

We were alongside 250 students from schools all over the UK and were part of a large and diverse team working on a futuristic Space Settlement for the year 2054.  The level of academic challenge and stretch was phenomenal (this is a competition organised and judged by some of the most highly qualified Engineers and Physicists in the world, including NASA scientists…..) not to mention the hours required to complete the project with most teams including our students working through the night on Saturday ahead of presenting on Sunday.

On paper our team came away empty handed and did not progress to the International finals in the USA (next time maybe?) but gained excellent feedback for their ideas, including a space diet of insects and wearable holographic clothing.  It was an incredible experience for us all – well done to all students who took part and to Dr Nelmes and Mrs Orr for all the behind the scenes organisation and encouragement for our students to take part.
