The Derby High Primary Year 6 Rounders team went to the Derby City SSP Rounders Festival at Moorways Stadium.
The sun was shining as we competed against five other local schools. Our team were all excited to begin the festival having trained hard at Rounders Club.
Derby High got off to a flying start beating St. Werburghs 10 ½ to 5 with a fantastic batting performances from Agi and Annabel. In high spirits, the team entered the second game against Ashwood Spencer. Vital rounders from Elizabeth and fantastic fielding by Alfie sealed an 11 ½ to 3 ½ victory. The team moved on into the third game. This time the opponents were Lakeside. Great batting by Amrutha and Isabella guided the team to a third consecutive victory by winning 11 to 2 ½. In the fourth game against Meadow Farm, Captain, Zoé lead by example with an incredible bowling and batting performance steering Derby High to a 9 ½ to 3 ½ victory. There was one game left to play, with Derby High knowing that winning would see them crowned champions. Chellaston Juniors were the opponents. Rosie added some fine rounders to the scorecard and an excellent display as backstop by Alana helped gain a fifth victory of the day for Derby High with a score of 11 to 3 ½.
The team thoroughly enjoyed the morning and were delighted when receiving their certificates for winning the festival. Mr Gould said that the team were a true credit to the school and was delighted by how all of the children conducted themselves throughout the morning!BACK
