On a beautiful sunny Thursday afternoon the annual house hockey competition took place on the field. The girls taking part were all ready for action and the matches began in earnest.
In the first round of matches, it took a while for everyone to get used to the grass pitches and the ball bobbling and not always travelling as fast as they wanted, but nevertheless they got stuck in! In a closely fought game, St George snuck a goal past St Andrew to finish as 1-0 winners; while St Patrick played some nice balls to one another up the field and scored 2 goals to win the game.
In the second round of games there were two closely fought battles. St Andrew and St David went tête-à-tête but no goals were scored in their game, ending in a 0-0 draw. A very tight game between St George and St Patrick ended in a 1-1 draw, which meant that the final round of matches would decide the winners.
St George had a strong game against St David, where they won 2-0 to finish the tournament with 2 wins and 1 draw from 3 matches. On the other pitch, St Patrick notched 3-0 past St Andrew, again finishing with 2 wins and 1 draw - which meant it all went down to goal difference - only one goal between the 1st and 2nd placed teams.
The final placings were:
4th St Andrew, 3rd St David, 2nd St George and 1st St Patrick.
It was a fantastic afternoon, enjoyed by all and some really great hockey on display! There were girls from a variety of year groups playing and it was lovely to see some of the House Captains donning the goal keeper kits for their teams! Well done to all involved and thank you to all who came down to watch and support! Tilly Gardener collected the trophy from Mr Maddox, as St Patrick reclaimed their title as House Hockey champions.BACK
